Hello! My name is Jim Bettag, I am 65 years old and am retired from telecommunications where I worked in the maintenance of telephone switching equipment (13 years) and engineering of the wiring and space utilization of telephone central office power, switching and transmission equipment (23 years). I enjoy cooking, digital photography, casino gambling and talking with people (well, most people). I am a politically left leaning moderate, a social liberal and I write blogs just to get things off my mind and down on paper. I like to discuss politics, religion and started this blog page to meet new people and to get new ideas and inputs.

Hi Jim
Pleased I discovered your site because you have been thinking about some of the same issues I have considered on my site. Your thoughts on religion make sense although I wonder if you would consider some more of the sociological issues. For example the social setting appears to influence the shape of the religion. In high stress areas (eg Afghanistan) religion becomes more extreme whereas in the Scandanavian countries with more welfare safeguards and less contrast between the rich and the poor, there is much less commitment to extreme views. I agree that there are sociological factors behind religion which may even go beyond the issues you raise. For example social insurance whereby folk need a community of like thinking people so that they know who their friends will be when times get tough.
Hello, peddiebill, and welcome. Great comment. I see your point and I agree completely. It’s sad how religion shapes our world when it is a system comprised of ideas or beliefs that cannot be proven or validated yet we will kill those who disagree with them. Somehow religion got on the wrong track and no one has been successful in correcting that.
Hello Mr. Bettag. I just want to commend you on the work that you have put into your site. In my opinon, the articles posted here are very interesting, and well written. Of course , we both know that not every one will believe in or agree with every spoken or written, thought or idea. Even so, those that are interested in writing would do well to pay this site a visit. As Blogs go, it is the the kind that many writers would learn much from, in mores ways than one ! I am sure that you will continue to deliver information of value. I am very glad that I found it, and will certainly return again. Press on comrade. Thanks.
Hello Thurman. Thanks for visiting my site and for the kind words concerning my blogs. Not everyone is as considerate as you. I have received some comments that disagree with what I said and I expect those. I have also received supportive comments like yours that I appreciate very much. I look forward to your future visits and comments. Have a great weekend and enjoy the holidays.
